USED BOOK POLICY

What kind of items do you carry?

We carry many different types of books, such as romance; mystery; westerns; horror; sci-fi and fantasy; classic literature; poetry; general fiction, and non-fiction books such as history; biography; travel; cooking, and more. We also carry audio books on CD and cassette.

What kind of books do we accept for trade?

You can bring us your used books and audio books to trade for store credit. We take books that are in good condition, with no water damage, staining, or missing pages. A good rule of thumb: don’t bring us a book that you wouldn’t want to buy.

We DO NOT take:

  • books that are damaged or missing covers
  • books that are mildewed, water damaged, or dirty
  • books with writing, highlighting, or other markings
  • hardcover books that are missing their dust jackets
  • former library books (cellophane jacket wrapping or dewey decimal stickers)
  • magazines or catalogs
  • serial romance books that are more than one year old
  • encyclopedias
  • textbooks (we do take very current textbooks on a consignment basis)
  • Readers Digest books/condensed books

How does used book credit work?

When you bring us used books, we start an account for you in our system. In most cases, we give you credit for 25% of the book’s original cover price (on paperback books; credit amount varies for hardcover books). For example, if you bring us a book that was originally $10.00, we will give you $2.50 in credit.

How do I redeem my credit?

Once you have used book credit with us, this is how you can redeem it: When you purchase a USED book from us, you will pay 50% of the sticker price. The other 50% comes out of your credit. For example, if you want to buy a used book with a sticker price of $5.00, you will only actually pay $2.50. The other $2.50 will be taken out of your credit.

If you purchase a NEW book, 10% of the cover price will come out of your credit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use my book credit toward gift items from the store?

A: No, credit is only good toward the purchase of books.

Q: Do you pay cash for used books?

A: In most cases we issue store credit. Exceptions will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

Q: When will you not take my books?

A: If your books meet the above criteria but we already have a used copy of that book on the shelf, we will not be able to take it because we don’t have room for multiple copies.
