Chapters Bookshop is an official 99th anniversary Children’s Book Week event host
Celebration continues through May 6
GALAX – As part of the longest-running national celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading, more than 750 schools, libraries, and bookstores across the U.S. including Chapters Bookshop in downtown Galax, will celebrate Children’s Book Week from April 30 to May 6.
This May marks the 99th anniversary of Children’s Book Week; the theme for this year’s celebration is “One World, Many Stories.”
Voting for the 11th Annual Children’s & Teen Choice Book Awards, the only national book award voted on solely by kids and teens is underway through May 6. Highlights include: a special children’s book window display featuring Children’s & Teen Choice Book Awards finalists; a voting booth for the 11th Annual Children’s & Teen Choice Book Awards; special discounts and promotions; online access to free reading materials, activities, posters, bookmarks, and more courtesy of Every Child a Reader; and story and craft time featuring activity and a light snack beginning 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 4 in the Chapters Bookshop children’s book section. Chapters Bookshop also has partnered with The Conservatory of Dance & Theatre, a Galax-based ballet and performing arts school, to offer the ultimate Children’s Book Week prize. Stop by Chapters Bookshop, located at 101 E. Grayson St. in downtown Galax, and enter a drawing for a chance to win the WONKA! prize pack, which includes two golden tickets to a ballet performance, a copy of Roald Dahl’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” and a box of six truffles. The winner will be announced Monday, May 7.
Chapters Bookshop is the area’s only independent bookstore. In addition, Chapters Bookshop & the Wine Cellar at Chapters also offers a unique selection of clothing, jewelry, toys, gifts, food, beer and wine, home décor and more.

Children’s Book Week is a cornerstone program of Every Child a Reader, a 501(c)(3) literacy charity dedicated to inspiring a lifelong love of reading in children and teens across America.
